ASME Section II Part D (Customary), 2023 Edition – Properties

ASME Section II, Part D is a “Service Section” to the other BPVC Sections, providing material specifications for ferrous materials adequate for safety in the field of pressure equipment. These specifications contain requirements for chemical and mechanical properties, heat treatment, manufacture, heat and product analyses, and methods of testing. They are designated by SB numbers and are identical with or similar to those of specifications published by ASTM and other recognized national or international organizations. What are the key changes for 2023 BPVC Section II, Part DC and DM (ASME BPVC-II D and ASME BPVC-II DM)?

• Code cases 2577, 2586-1, 2591, 2633, 2687-1, 2849, 2903, 2923 have been incorporated.
• Additions and revisions to stress tables and mechanical property tables have been made to support updated specifications.
• SA-283 Grade A and Grade B lines have been removed.
• Type/Grade column has been added to Tables 2B and 5B, and many values have been populated.
